Kennesaw State University Hockey Program Expands Internatinal Relationships
Owls establish a second international player development program with Toronto Thunderbirds of the Canadian Provincial JR A League (OHA)

It was announced today the Kennesaw State University D-3 Hockey Team (KSU) will begin working with the TORONTO THUNDERBIRDS of the Canadian Provincial JR A League (OHA) to establish a joint Player Development program allowing graduating Canadian JR A Hockey players to consider U.S. University education options. In return KSU will represent the Toronto Thunderbirds U.S. recruitment and scouting requirements in the South Eastern United States.

The Kennesaw State University Hockey program is in the process of evaluating a NCAA D-1 CHA Hockey bid and is part of the ACHA 123 team D-3 Division which include teams from Arizona State University, Florida State University Texas A&M, University of Tennessee, University of Colorado, University of Pittsburgh, Penn State University, University of Richmond and University of Georgia.

Kennesaw State University has approximately twenty thousand full time students and recently confirmed its NCAA D-1 Varsity Athletic status.

According to Matt Hogan , Head Coach for the KSU Hockey program “ the objective of the relationship will be to create quality US/Canada Education and Hockey options that can provide timely information to any player or parent interested in playing in either country”.” We are kicking off the relationship by co sponsoring the July 15 th- 17 th Atlanta Prospect and Evaluation Training Camp at the Marietta Ice Center. The three day program will include players from the Ontario Provincial JR A league and premier U.S. Southern travel and University teams with a focus on introducing them to a high level Hockey skills evaluations. During the sessions the group will be escorted around the Kennesaw State University campus, meeting with representatives from various NCAA, ACHA and professional Hockey programs.”

The Toronto Thunderbirds are one of 35 Provincial JR A Hockey programs operating in Ontario Canada and continue to produce some of the finest Hockey talent in the League. Thunderbird GM / Head Coach Sean Carney continues to search the globe for new talent as he builds his program. Last season the Thunderbirds had 3 U.S. players in their line up and are looking to the recruiting efforts of Kennesaw State University to add more this season. “Our summer camp will begin in late July and we expect significant U.S. player representation and look forward to assisting any player looking to continue his education and hockey career in the U.S. College/University system”.
