SOUTHAVEN, MS — Memphis RiverKings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations announced today (Thursday) that the Central Hockey League team has signed three forwards to contracts for the 2006-2007 season. The team has re-signed Ryan Campbell while adding Daryl Moore and Tristan Senior.
Campbell (5-11, 188 lbs) was an excellent waiver wire find and centered the team’s top line after being signed after the first game last season. The Edmonton, Alberta native had been cut by the Alaska Aces (ECHL) at the conclusion of their training camp and went to score just under a point a game with 23 goals and 38 assists for 61 points in 63 games with the RiverKings. Campbell finished second on the squad in multiple point games (18), multiple goal games (5) and multiple assist games (11).
Campbell, who is entering his third pro season, played his rookie season with the Columbia Inferno (ECHL) in 2004-2005 and has played in a total of 119 pro games, accumulating 34 goals and 48 assists for 82 points. Prior to turning pro, the 27-year-old played three seasons of junior hockey with the Ft. Saskatchewan Traders (AJHL) followed by four seasons of Division I collegiate hockey at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks.
Moore (5-7, 165 lbs) will be entering his rookie season after concluding a four year career at Division I Western Michigan University. After seeing limited time his freshman and sophomore seasons, the Brantford, Ontario product scored a combined ten goals and assisted on 23 more in 70 games his junior and senior seasons with the Broncos. Moore, 23, finished sixth on the team in scoring in each of those two seasons with 16 and 17 points, respectively. Prior to college, he totaled 52 points (25 goals, 27 assists) in 39 games during the 2001-2002 season with the Elmira Sugarkings and Brantford Golden Eagles of the Mid-Western Junior “B” Hockey League.
Senior (5-9, 190 lbs) comes to Memphis after playing two seasons with the Dutch Elite Ice Hockey League’s Den Haag Wolves. Senior, 25, played in 64 games with the Wolves, scoring 43 goals and assisting on 40 others. Before playing in Holland, the Peterborough, Ontario native competed for three seasons at the University of Toronto; picking up 13 goals and 19 assists (32 points) in 44 career games between 2001 and 2004. Leading up to his college career, Senior split the 2001-2002 season between the Peterborough Bees and the Milton Hawks of the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League; scoring 47 times and picking up 77 assists in 65 total games.
The team also announced that they have signed Forward Brad Wanchulak to a contract, thus retaining his CHL rights. Wanchulak has signed with and will play this season with the Heerenveen Flyers in the Dutch Elite League. The RiverKings have petitioned for his H2B working visa in the chance that he should elect to return later in the season.
Wanchulak (5-11, 185 lbs) was a late season rookie addition for the RiverKings in 2005-2006 and made an immediate impact. Playing in the final 14 games, the native of Edson, Alberta collected 14 points on eight goals and six assists. His goal total included a hat trick and a pair of two-goal games. Wanchulak also saw time last season with the Phoenix Roadrunners and Greenville Growl of the ECHL as well as the PeeDee Cyclones of the SPHL.
This past summer, the former Notre Dame Fighting Irish forward played in the Australian Ice Hockey League with the Adelaide Avalanche and collected 53 points (26goals, 27 assists) in just 23 games.
By adding Campbell, Moore and Senior to the mix, the RiverKings have 19 players signed for its training camp roster. Training camp opens on October 9 at the DeSoto Civic Center. A training camp schedule and fan practice session accessibility will be released in the coming days.
