This years camp will feature 110 players from Tennessee , South Carolina , Georgia , Alabama , Kentucky , Louisiana and Florida . Players range in age from birth years 1987 to 1991 and are accepted from applications to ensure the level of comptition is the highest possible.
"Last years camp was a great success and we are expecting this years to be even better," said Brandon Walker, program director. "The biggest thing for me has been how excited our coaching staff is to return and work with the players from this area. Coaches are calling to ask if they can participate."
This years coaching roster includes; Robert Bouchard (Nashville Predators), Uwe Krupp (German Olympic team), Leigh Mendelson (Green Bay Gamblers, USHL), Nathan Bowen (University of Alabama-Huntsville), Scott Robinson (Cowichan Valley Capitals, BCHL), Mike Rooney (Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League), Mike Earhart (Santa Fe Roadrunners, NAHL) and Dan Wildfong (Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs). There will also be several junior and college programs in attendance to watch potential prospects.
This year participants will be split into six different teams for the duration of the camp. Each day players will have an hour-and-a-half practice session and play in a full game that afternoon. There will also be daily team building sessions, off-ice training, video instruction and seminars. All off-ice work will be under the guidence of David Good, Nashville Predators strength and conditioning coach.
"The purpose of the camp is two-fold," said Walker . "First we want to help these players improve their game to the best it can possibly be. Secondly, it is important to expose the players to several different junior and college programs so they may have opportunties to continue their game at the next level."
Camp seminars last year featured topics on mental preperation, a players hockey future past minor hockey, working on skills off-ice and preparing for training camps. The off-ice workouts included weight training, cardiovascular work, stretching and plyometrics.
Each player will participate in on and off-ice fitness training. All training results will be presented in a report card form and a post-camp evaluation will be held with the player, his Elite Edge coach and parents. Also, each player will receive a binder full of information on hockey training and articles to help him prepare for the upcoming season.
