The early-season sample is thought to be large enough to make an educated guess as to what is right and what is wrong with teams. It’s a time when general managers start making decisions that will affect the rest of the season and future of a franchise. |

Capitals coach was a legendary player, coach in the American Hockey League
 | WASHINGTON, D.C. – Washington Capitals head coach Bruce Boudreau – a legendary player and coach at the American Hockey League (AHL) level before joining the Capitals – has been selected as a member of the class of 2009 for the AHL Hall of Fame, the league announced today. The Class of 2009 will be honored as part of the festivities at the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic. The induction ceremony will take place as part of the AHL All-Star Classic Luncheon on Monday, Jan. 26, in Worcester, Mass.

Morrow Expected to Miss Up To Six Months; Club Recalls RW Landon Wilson from Grand Rapids FRISCO, Tex. – The Dallas Stars announced today that the left wing Brenden Morrow is out indefinitely with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee that will require surgery. If the assignment is to start an NHL franchise, what player would you choose to build for the future? Goaltending is the most important position, so it’s Martin Brodeur – the most accomplished active player at that position. Oh, wait, not comfortable building a team around a 36-year-old? How about Roberto Luongo? Or is 29 not the optimum age for building long term? OK, then it has to be Carey Price, 21. Prefer offense? Sidney Crosby has the best blend of overall skills, and he’s dynamic. But Alexander Ovechkin is more of a pure goal-scorer. |
