Capitals Recall Daren Machesney from South Carolina



WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Capitals have recalled goaltender Daren Machesney from the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.

Machesney, 20, was assigned to South Carolina earlier today from Hershey of the American Hockey League (AHL). He recorded a 3-3-0 record in 10 games with the Bears, posting a 3.02 goals-against average with an .887 save percentage. In seven games with the Stingrays this season Machesney is 2-5-0 with a 3.24 goals-against average.

A 6’0’’, 182-pound native of Hamilton, Ontario, Machesney was selected by the Capitals in the fifth round, 143rd overall, of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. The first-year pro was the Capitals’ backup goaltender in one previous game this season, Dec. 30 at the New York Rangers.
